About Me
Pioneer Primitives is my home based business and I am the designer, webmaster, shipping department, customer service department, product creator, and dyer. I also have a wonderful husband and 5 beautiful children; as well as 20 piano students. I am busy!
I discovered rug hooking in 2004, and I quickly discovered that there were no suppliers in Utah, and the craft stores that carried minimal supplies were unreliable as far as stocking went. So I decided to start a small business and here we are.
I have been teaching beginning rug hooking and punch needle locally for several years, I have even appeared on a local news magazine show, Studio 5, where I demonstrated punch needle embroidery. I also supply my own hand dyed wool to local quilt and fiber stores.
In 2007, I was reading on the online rug hooking groups about how members were going to hook-ins and rug camps, and I wanted to go! But they were all too far for me to travel and be away from my young family for so long. So I decided to host a hook-in myself just so I could go to one. It was a great success and turned into an annual event. I am very excited because it has even evolved into a full fledged guild of rug hookers in Utah called the Utah Rug and Fiber Guild. Last year we hosted Ali Strebel as our first national teacher, and this year are looking forward to welcoming Maggie Bonanomi to our state. I am currently serving as the Communications Director for our guild.
